While I was reading it, my dad and I got into an argument about whether or not graphic novels are a “real” form of reading and whether modern kidlit “panders” too much to the needs of children (Like ffs, let kids read what they love! It’s how you raise a generation of readers).

It felt firmly grounded in history and mythos- mostly because of its lyrical language and historically accurate settings- despite the action-book style. It does a phenomenal job preserving the language, tone, grandiosity, and historical context of the original text.
